Residential Program

Residential Program for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Our Residential Program for adults with developmental disabilities offers a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment that empowers individuals to live as independently as possible while fostering community, dignity, and personal growth. This program is designed to meet the unique needs of each individual, providing both the structure and flexibility required to thrive in daily life.

Program Goals:

  • Fostering Independence: We focus on helping individuals build the skills necessary for daily living, including personal care, household management, and decision-making. The goal is to support individuals in becoming as independent as possible while respecting their individual abilities.
  • Promoting Social Connection: Through a combination of group activities and social opportunities, our program creates a vibrant community where individuals can form friendships, develop communication skills, and enjoy meaningful interactions with peers and staff.
  • Enhancing Life Skills: Individuals engage in activities that help them gain practical skills in areas such as cooking, budgeting, time management, and self-advocacy, providing them with tools to lead fulfilling and productive lives.
  • Personal Growth and Empowerment: The program emphasizes self-esteem, confidence, and personal empowerment, encouraging individuals to set and achieve personal goals in a safe, respectful environment.

Program Structure:

  1. Personalized Care and Support:
    • Each individual’s care plan is developed based on their unique needs, preferences, and goals. This plan outlines how staff will assist with personal care (e.g., hygiene, medication management), household tasks (e.g., laundry, cleaning), and other aspects of daily living. Individuals are encouraged to take an active role in managing their care and making choices about their routines.
  2. Life Skills Development:
    • Individuals participate in activities designed to enhance essential life skills. These include learning to prepare simple meals, managing money, taking care of personal hygiene, and navigating the community. Each individual is supported to build their independence at their own pace.
  3. Social and Recreational Activities:
    • The program offers a variety of social and recreational activities that promote engagement and personal interests. Activities may include outings to local parks, museums, or events, as well as in-house activities like arts and crafts, music therapy, exercise, or game nights. These activities encourage socialization, creativity, and physical well-being.

  1. Health and Wellness:
    • Health and wellness are integral to the program, with individuals’ ability to utilize the local YMCA. Individuals are able to use the workout equipment, swim and play basketball among other things at the YMCA.
  2. Community Integration:
    • Individuals are encouraged to become active members of their local communities. This may involve participating in volunteer opportunities, joining community-based programs, or attending social events. The goal is to help individuals feel connected to the broader community and engage in activities that promote inclusion.
  3. Family and Support System Involvement:
    • We value the involvement of families and support networks in each individual’s care. Regular communication with family members is encouraged to ensure that their loved one’s needs are being met and that they are fully informed and involved in decision-making processes. Families are invited to participate in regular reviews of their loved one’s progress and goals.

Additional Features:

  • Safety and Security: The program is designed to provide a safe and secure environment where individuals can live with peace of mind. Staff are trained to handle emergencies and provide necessary support in a way that respects the dignity and privacy of each individual.
  • Emphasis on Choice and Autonomy: Throughout the residential program, we empower individuals to make choices about their daily routines, activities, and personal goals, promoting self-determination and respect for individual preferences.

By providing a structured, compassionate, and person-centered environment, our Residential Program for adults with developmental disabilities ensures that each individual is supported to live a fulfilling, independent, and meaningful life while being an active and valued member of the community.
